GIANT OAK devoid of early speed, was fanned six wide into upper stretch and came home with belatedly energy to get up for show honors. FRIEND OR FOE left the starting gate alertly, argued for the lead from the inside on nearly even terms with MORNING LINE glued directly to the outside, continued along on the same scenario for three-quarters, was about to shake off the aforementioned rival when the top one arrived on the scene midpoint on the second turn, offered brief resistance before relinquishing the lead, remained a prominent factor until the eighth pole, steadily weakened thereafter. HEADACHE made contact with RAIL TRIP after lunging at the break, was taken over to the inside and contently rode the rail, cut the corner into the lane and was asked for a response, was moving willingly when forced to alter course outward in the vicinity of the eighth pole, failed to regain his best after completing the maneuver. MISSION IMPAZIBLE between rivals on the second turn, had no rally. RAIL TRIP was bumped at the start, took up position off the inside in the middle of the pack, departed the backstretch from the three path, turned for home within striking distance, but lacked the necessary stretch response. RODMAN forwardly placed right from the start, angled sharply over to the inside just before reaching the opening turn, moved up, appearing eager as he proceeded around that bend, was forced to steady off FRIEND OR FOE's heels coming to the seven-eighths pole, became rank, was eased into two path early down the backstretch and after being steadied a second time, began to rate kindly, went momentarily back to the rail after entering the far turn before angling three wide from three-eighths pole, hesitated for a stride before splitting rivals a sixteenth down the road, came up empty when called upon in upper stretch. APART swung three wide into the backstretch, was put to a prolonged drive but could no headway on the front runners. DUKE OF MISCHIEF underwent a three wide to four wide journey, was put to a drive early on the far turn, but was through after completing three-quarters. MORNING LINE disputed the pace from the two path for six furlongs before backing away.

BOUND BY HUMOR came away in good order, pressed the pacesetter, gained the lead passing the seven-sixteenths pole, dropped to the inside near the five-sixteenths pole, dueled with GROUND FORCE while under right hand urging in upper stretch, was brushed by that rival inside the furlong marker, switched to a left-handed whip, continued to duel while joined on the outside by WEE FREUDIAN, came out under left hand urging late, bumped with GROUND FORCE, forced that rival into the runner-up and prevailed. WEE FREUDIAN bumped repeatedly with GROUND FORCE on the backstretch, bumped between rivals near the five-eighths pole, dropped back a bit, advanced five then four wide while hard ridden on the turn, dropped to three wide near the five-sixteenths pole, joined the two leaders passing the eighth-pole, battled with those rivals on the outside while under vigorous urging, was bumped by GROUND FORCE late and missed. GROUND FORCE bumped repeatedly with WEE FREUDIAN on the backstretch, raced just off the pace, made a three wide bid early on the turn, dropped to the two path near the five-sixteenths pole, dueled with BOUND BY HUMOR while under right hand urging in upper stretch, came in a bit near the eighth-pole, brushed with the aforementioned rival shortly thereafter, continued to duel while now between rivals, was bumped late and forced into WEE FREUDIAN then also missed. ARTIE LUVSTO PARTY was well placed just off the pace, raced inside early on the turn then eased off the rail, chased the leaders into the stretch, was guided out while under left hand urging near the furlong marker, lugged in while still under left hand urging and lacked the needed kick. BUD WHITE raced in tight quarters while between rivals in the second flight, went three to four wide on the turn and weakened. COOKS FOREST lacked early speed, raced inside early on the turn, came around a fading opponent near the five-sixteenths pole and passed tired rivals. SOUTHBEACHSANDY stumbled at the start but recovered quickly, raced in the second flight, was bumped near the five-eighths pole then in tight around the half-mile pole, checked sharply between rivals in the vicinity of the seven-sixteenths pole, went three to four wide through the turn and tired in a brutal trip. TOKEN SACRIFICE raced just off the pace while between rivals, went two to three wide on the turn, was asked near the five-sixteenths pole and came up empty. SEEK TO DESTROY showed good speed, set the pace under pressure, lost the lead while inside passing the seven-sixteenths pole, dropped out midway through the turn and faded then was taken care of in the final furlong. PUFF THE DRAGON dropped back while urged along and showed little. BROLIO was restless in the gate, broke in the air, dropped well off the pace, lugged out near the half-mile pole, bore out on the turn and faltered then was not urged in the stretch. Following the race, the stewards' conducted an inquiry into the action in deep stretch. After the review, there was no change made to the order of finish.
