The Future Stars Friday fields are set. Monday's draw at the Keeneland sales pavilion locked in five Grade 1 races for 2-year-olds on Friday, October 30, and the headline is short: Hughes drew post 5 in an eight-horse Juvenile and was installed at even money, the shortest price on the Friday card. Sun Goddess (6-5) is the other heavy favorite, from post 9 in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, where she meets the filly she beat in the Moyglare, Green Empress, now drawn on the rail after winning the Prix Marcel Boussac. Here are all five fields, the storylines that moved at the draw, and what we're watching before the first one goes at 2:55 p.m. ET.

Five also-eligibles are listed behind the field of 12.

Libertango is the 5-2 favorite off a Group 1 near miss. She won the Albany at Royal Ascot and the Lowther at York, then ran second to Sun Goddess in the Cheveley Park. Brickyard Belle (3-1) is 2-for-2 for Miguel Clement, and her Matron win at Belmont came by running down Harper's Corner. Harper's Corner has been on the lead at the first call in each of her last four starts, and from post 10 she'll be gunning again.

Emphatic already won this race's dress rehearsal. She's 3-for-3, and her last start was a front-running win in the Alcibiades over this track at this exact distance. That's why she's the 9-5 favorite even from post 10. Miss Monica (5-2) is 2-for-2 for Bob Baffert, including the Del Mar Debutante.

Manuka Honey at 10-1 is the price that jumps off the page. She's also unbeaten, 3-for-3, with wins in a Churchill maiden race, the Ellis Park Debutante, and the Pocahontas at Churchill, where Scarlett Begonia was second. Two unbeaten fillies sit at 9-5 and 5-2, and the third unbeaten filly is 10-1.

Three also-eligibles are listed behind the field of 14.

Sun Goddess arrives on a four-race win streak. Her last four starts were the Phoenix at the Curragh, a race at York, the Moyglare, and the Cheveley Park. Ryan Moore rides for Aidan O'Brien, and post 9 in a 14-horse field is workable.

Green Empress gets her rematch from the rail. She ran second to Sun Goddess in the Moyglare, then went to Longchamp and won the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac. Post 1 saves ground, but she was sixth early in both of those races, so Dylan Browne McMonagle will need the field to open up for her in the stretch.

Amusingly beat the boys. Her last start was the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp, which she won from last of 10 at the first call. Domestic Agenda (8-1) is 2-for-2 for Chad Brown and Flavien Prat after winning the Miss Grillo, and Serenas Ghost won the Jessamine over this course.

7Coach PopeJose OrtizKenny McPeek4-1
8He Is No LieJoel RosarioDoug O'Neill15-1

Hughes is 4-for-4 and the shortest price on Friday. He won his maiden race, the Best Pal, the Del Mar Futurity, and the American Pharoah. He has been first, second, or third at the first call in every race, so he doesn't need the lead. From post 5 in an eight-horse field, Flavien Prat can put him wherever he wants.

Baffert has two unbeaten colts in the gate. Salahudin (6-1, post 3) is 3-for-3, including the Iroquois at Churchill, where he came from sixth at the first call to beat He Is No Lie.

American History has already won at Keeneland at this distance. He's 2-for-2, and the second win was the Breeders' Futurity here on October 3. He was last of six at the first call and beat Coach Pope, who is 4-1 here. Three of the eight starters are unbeaten, and the one who has already won over this track and distance is 9-2.

One also-eligible is listed behind the field of 14.

This is the most open race of the day. How's Al Today (3-1) is the favorite after winning the Juvenile Mile at Kentucky Downs. Folsom Blues (7-2) won the National Stakes at the Curragh, then ran second in the Lagardere. Great Barrier Reef (4-1) won the Coventry at Royal Ascot and was third in the Dewhurst, but he drew post 14, the far outside in a 14-horse turf mile.

Aidan O'Brien sent four. Great Barrier Reef, Haffner (Royal Lodge winner), Florida Bay, and Man's Best Friend give Ballydoyle a quarter of the field, with Ryan Moore on the outside horse. Agate came from seventh to win the Bourbon over this course and is 10-1.

What We're Watching

Speed in the Juvenile Fillies. Emphatic won the Alcibiades from the front, but she won't be alone this time. Lexi's Charm, Life Changing, and Scarlett Begonia have all been on or near the lead in recent starts. If Gaffalione has to use Emphatic from post 10 to get position, the stalkers get their chance. Manuka Honey sat between third and fifth early in all three of her wins.

The juvenile pace is honest, not hot. Gaudreau (post 2) led the Champagne at the first call and He Is No Lie (post 8) has been close to the pace, but nobody in this field needs the lead the way a pure sprinter does. That favors Hughes, who can sit just off the speed, over the deep closer American History.

Wide draws in the turf routes. Three favorites or near-favorites start from double digits: Sun Goddess (9), Amusingly (10), and Great Barrier Reef (14). Ground lost on the first turn adds up in 14-horse fields.

Weather watch. Keeneland's turf has to hold up through ten races on Friday and twelve on Saturday. We'll check track condition and any rail placement on race morning.
