Jeff Ruby Steaks Day – Free Selections for Saturday

The winter winds are getting further apart, and snow is starting to be replaced by spring temperatures and sunshine. Today it is 26 degrees and spitting snow and rain. Saturday will be 68 degrees and sunny. I live a handful of miles from Turfway Park, and they are very excited about the weather, horses, and the connections coming in for the big day.

There will be 13 races on tap with six stakes races of which two will be graded featuring the G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks will be a 100 Kentucky Derby point race.

 

Race #7 – The $250,000 Latonia Stakes – 1 1/16

#6 – Devassa (BRZ) (10-1) = Hails from the Paulo Lobo barn with Walther Rodriguez in the irons. She is a stalking closer coming off a couple of solid efforts at TP and gets an added 16th of a mile to close into.

 

Race #8 – The $250,000 Rushaway – 1 1/16

#8 – Bull by the Horns (9-2) = Trainer Saffie Joseph wins 21% on synthetic and he exits the G2 Fountain of Youth off a dismal effort. Drops in class and John Velasquez picks up the mount.

 

Race #9 – The $250,000 Animal Kingdom – 6f

#7 – Outfielder (2-1) = Johnny V aboard for Wesley Ward and he is a speedy son of Speightstown. Ward is winning 27% at the meet.

 

Race #10 – The G3 Ky Cup Classic – 1 1/8

#2 – Utah Beach (6-1) = This is first start since Keeneland in October and is 2/3 ITM on synthetic and 2/3 ITM over the Turfway course. Vincent Cheminaud in the saddle and he should come calling late in the lane.

 

Race #11 – The $300,000 Bourbonette Oaks – 1 1/16

#2 – Resist (12-1) = She is a solid closer for trainer Thom Drury with Irving Moncada in the saddle. – Look for her to make a move at the 3/8ths pole.

 

Race #12 – The G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks – 1 1/8

#10 – Argos (6-1) = This son of Nyquist has mainly ran on the turf for Brad Cox with Luan Machado in the irons. Adds Blinkers coming in from the Riley Mott barn prior. A very solid work is attractive, and Cox is winning at a 39% clip for the meet.
