Summer to Remember

Every summer has good and bad to remember. Nothing like the sweet summer sun beating down on your noggin enjoying an adult beverage. Plenty to like, miss, and enjoy as the summer of 2025 was one for the ages. As today is Labor Day, it officially the end of summer. I can feel the chilly air of autumn sweeping in to replace the warm sunny days.

This summer started as they all do. I began calling races and had just received my first check. Things were off and running as I like to say. - I started feeling weak and like most boneheads I ruled it off as a flu. - Not the case this time, as I ended up in the hospital for three months. But I'm back and you can count on blogs coming your way again. Thanks to the Winning Ponies folks for waiting for me come off IR.

Perry Ouzts had another milestone and it at the end of my short two week meet. He surpassed Russel Baze for total number of mounts ridden in North America. - Perry has had a million milestones and ranks 5th leading rider of all time in North America. - He now owns the most mounts ever ridden as well. - He was greeted by throngs of fans, photo ops, faces and family from the past. Most of all when Pat Day walked into the winner's circle the celebration just got better.

From 1973 at Beulah Park aboard Rablu as his first winner for WJ Danner to the heights of his lofty career. It has been a pleasure watching the "Working Man's Hero ply his trade. At 71-years young, Perry is far from done. I envision his riding for Larry Smith and Barb Riley all the while picking up mounts along the way. - Not bad for a guy from Rivervale, Arkansas, And the best part, I got to watch from my backyard as a dedicated man rode his way into the history books.
