Nitrogen seeks redemption in the Apple Blossom, Lush Lips eyes a fourth straight win, and 11 colts battle in the final Derby prep. | Our Exotic Predictions Have Paid | |
Saturday's Showdown: Apple Blossom, Jenny Wiley, and Lexington StakesIf you thought the action cooled off after the major Derby preps wrapped up, think again. This Saturday, April 11th, delivers one of the most stacked single-day cards of the spring, with three graded stakes across two of North America's finest racetracks demanding your attention, your bankroll, and probably a few shouted expletives at the television. The headliner is the $1.25 million Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) at Oaklawn Park, and this one has all the ingredients of a war. Champion filly Nitrogen, last year's top three-year-old filly and the 9-5 morning line favorite, is looking to bounce back after a shocking third-place finish at 1-5 odds in the Azeri Stakes last month on a sloppy track. Trainer Mark Casse's team has been adamant the fast surface will bring out a different horse, and Nitrogen's recent workouts back that up, including a bullet five furlongs in 1:01 flat. But the mare who beat her, Majestic Oops, is not going away quietly. That gritty upset winner rallied wide to take the Azeri and earned her spot at 9-2 on the morning line. And do not sleep on Regaled, who closed with a fury to finish between them. All three are back for the rematch, joined by six others including Casse's own stablemate Nerazurri, who has won three of her last four at Oaklawn and offers sneaky value at 6-1. Five G crushed her four-year-old debut by four and a half lengths at Gulfstream, and Hall of Famer John Velazquez is traveling from Keeneland just to ride her. Claret Beret arrives fresh off a five-length romp in the Royal Delta at Gulfstream. For the first time ever, the Apple Blossom is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series qualifier, meaning the winner punches a ticket straight to the Distaff at Keeneland in October. The stakes could not be higher for the older filly and mare division. Meanwhile, up at Keeneland, Saturday's card features two compelling stakes of its own. The $650,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1) on the turf brings together ten talented fillies and mares, and the star of the show is Lush Lips, the British-bred daughter of Ten Sovereigns riding a three-race winning streak that includes last fall's Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup right here at Keeneland. She is six-for-nine since joining Brendan Walsh's barn, and Tyler Gaffalione will be back in the saddle. But this deep field has plenty of closers and spoilers who could make her earn it, including Destino d'Oro, who also comes in on a three-race streak, and the battle-tested Expensive Queen, who has won three of four stateside. At 5-2 on the morning line, Lush Lips is deserving of favoritism, but this is the kind of loaded turf race where exactas and trifectas can pay handsomely. Then there is the $400,000 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes (G3), the final qualifying race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. None of the 11 three-year-olds entered will be running on the first Saturday in May, but do not let that fool you into thinking this race lacks firepower. This is a Preakness audition, and several of these colts are itching to prove they belong on the bigger stage. Morning line favorite Ezum, a Brad Cox trainee, obliterated a Colonial Downs allowance field by a jaw-dropping 19 and a half lengths and looks like the one they all have to run down. His stablemate Confessional, the son of Essential Quality with Irad Ortiz Jr. back aboard, won his debut impressively right here at Keeneland last October and has been steadily developing through the winter. Corona de Oro romped by four and a half lengths stretching out at Fair Grounds and brings legit speed figures into his stakes debut with Brian Hernandez Jr. riding. And keep an eye on The Hell We Did, who won his last start at Sunland Park by 13 lengths sprinting and will try two turns for the first time. It is a wide-open, bet-worthy field with fireworks written all over it. On Sunday, racing continues at Keeneland with the $400,000 Giant's Causeway Stakes (G2), a 5 1/2 furlong turf sprint for fillies and mares, keeping the action rolling into the afternoon. Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, Remington Park, and Horseshoe Indianapolis all offer full cards throughout the weekend as well, ensuring there is no shortage of racing no matter where your loyalties lie. Three weeks from the Kentucky Derby, the spring is roaring. Get your past performances, sharpen your pencils, and settle in. This is a weekend built for horseplayers. |

What Members Are Saying | “As someone new to horse racing, I never thought I could hit something this big (especially on my first try!). I hit the Trifecta for $1 and the Exacta for $2 to net close to $2000!
I think I was the only one at the track cheering when the results were posted. You guys are the real deal!
Just in case there are non-believers: Attached is a pic I took of the winning Derby ticket I bought at the local track. This is the least I could do for you guys! Thanks!” — Gary E., Scottsdale, AZ |
| “Thanks so much for the great Derby tips, which led to me having the winning trifecta x4. What a great way to start me night, but it got even better. I also purchased the card for Penn National that evening as I was going to be at the OTB anyway, and that card had 5 of 9 winners, including a $5205 trifecta! Rest assured I will recommend this site to all of my friends.” — Mick N., Washington, DC |
| “Just to let you know I hit the pick 6 at SA on 3-17 for 42475.20 and I hate to admit it I only spent 12.00. p.s. first time in my life I hit the pick 6 and I have tried some other services they all suck.” — Gus A., Atlantic, IA |
