Free Selections: Keeneland / Saturday, October 3

I can see the big sycamore holding court where the riders meet the trainers and get a leg up on their mounts. Yes, it happens just twice a year, in April and October, when the majesty of the sport is on showcase for the entire world to enjoy. Here are some free selections to whet your appetite and get you into the Kentucky mood, with your Keeneland E-Z Win Form in hand. If you've never made the trek to Keeneland, please keep it on your list of tracks to visit. You won't regret it!
Race 6: The G2 Woodford (5 1/2f turf, 3:40pm ET)
#7 Motorious. Umberto Rispoli has the call for Phil D'Amato today. He ships in from California, where he has been the beaten favorite five straight races. He gets an extra half furlong to get rolling in the lane, and his dam, Squash (GB), has 5 starters and 4 winners, all of them on the turf. He is bred to enjoy the green, and the rider and trainer are winning 29% as a team over the past 60 days.
Race 7: The G2 Thoroughbred Club of America (6 1/2f, 4:12pm ET)
#4 Evanescence. Jose Ortiz in the saddle for Eddie Kenneally. She is a perfect 2 for 2 at Keeneland and sports a strong late kick in the hands of Ortiz, who wins 23% with closers. She returns to today's distance, and the barn is targeting the meet: she has two sparkling works to prepare. Dangerous gal.
Race 8: The G1 First Lady (1 mile turf, 4:44pm ET)
#8 Segesta. Irad Ortiz rides for the Chad Brown barn, and this daughter of Ghostzapper is 3 for 3 in the money over the course. With Irad back in action, look for him to make up for lost time. Her dam, Antonoe, has 4 starters, 4 winners, 2 stakes winners, and 2 turf winners to her credit. She is a perfect stalker who is 6 for 7 in the money going today's distance.
Race 9: The G1 Breeders' Futurity (1 1/16, 5:16pm ET)
#1 Coach Pope. Son of Tapit for Ken McPeek, with Jose Ortiz drawing the rail. His last race was a commanding 12-length win with sharp speed numbers. The rail post will have him just off the pace and poised to move around the turn. That maiden win was so impressive, I'm ready to move him right up the ladder and make him my key horse.
Race 10: The G1 Coolmore Turf Mile (1 mile turf, 5:48pm ET)
#7 Lake Forest. Cieren Fallon aboard for the William Haggas yard. This closing son of No Nay Never ships in from York and gets added ground today. His dam, Lady Aquitaine, has 10 starters, 9 winners, 4 stakes winners, and 8 turf wins. Look for a closing effort. Fallon is not making the trip for nothing.
This should offer up a great day of racing. Use these as a starting point from my handicapping, and hopefully the major stakes get your bankroll building.
Best of luck, Ed.
