Horse Racing Odds Calculator: Win Payout Chart
A Win bet pays your stake back plus the odds: $2 × (odds + 1). A 5-2 winner pays $7.00 on a $2 bet, and the same horse pays $35.00 on $10. The board rounds odds down, so a horse showing 5-2 can pay a little more.

How Exotic Payouts Work
Horse racing is pari-mutuel. Every Exacta bet on a race goes into one Exacta pool, the track takes its share, and the rest is split among the winning tickets. The same is true for Trifectas, Daily Doubles and the Pick bets, each in its own pool. So an exotic payout depends on how many people played that exact result, not on a fixed price. The odds of the horses involved still predict it well, which is how the calculator above estimates it. For the live price before a race, check the will-pays (probables) on the tote board.
What Exacta, Trifecta and Pick 4 Bets Pay
Exacta Payout
A $2 Exacta with a 5-1 winner over a 2-1 runner-up pays about $37. Eight in ten pay between $27 and $53.
Estimate your own Exacta →Trifecta Payout
A $2 Trifecta with 5-1, 2-1 and 8-1 finishing 1-2-3 in an 8-horse field pays about $197. Eight in ten pay between $114 and $333.
Estimate your own Trifecta →Daily Double Payout
A $2 Daily Double with winners at 5-2 and 4-1 pays about $43. Eight in ten pay between $28 and $65.
Estimate your own Daily Double →Pick 3 Payout
A $2 Pick 3 with winners at 5-2, 4-1 and 3-1 pays about $200. Eight in ten pay between $122 and $319.
Estimate your own Pick 3 →Pick 4 Payout
A $2 Pick 4 with winners at 5-2, 4-1, 3-1 and 6-1 pays about $1,661. Eight in ten pay between $980 and $2,591.
Estimate your own Pick 4 →How the Estimates Are Made
We built the estimates from about 18,000 Thoroughbred races run from May through October 2026, comparing each race's final odds with its official payouts. We then checked them against races they weren't built from, and the ranges shown are where eight in ten of those real payouts landed.
- The winner's odds matter most, then second place, then third.
- The same Trifecta pays more in a bigger field, since more combinations were possible.
- Doubles and Pick bets pay more than rolling a Win bet through each race, because the track takes its share once instead of once per race.
- The same estimates work for Quarter Horse races, but their smaller pools make payouts swing wider, especially in Daily Doubles and Pick bets.
- Superfectas vary too much to estimate from odds, so they aren't included.
Know What It Costs, Too
A payout only matters next to what the ticket cost. Boxing four horses in a $1 Trifecta covers 24 combinations, so it needs a big payout to come out ahead. The Cost Calculator prices any box, key or wheel, and the Spread Ticket builder plans multi-race tickets.
Payout Calculator FAQ
What bets pay, and why exotic payouts can only be estimated.
A Win bet pays from the odds: a $2 Win bet returns $2 × (odds + 1), so a 5-2 winner pays $7.00 and a 10-1 winner pays $22.
Exotic bets (Exacta, Trifecta, Daily Double and the Pick bets) are paid from their own pools, so no formula gives the exact amount. The Payout Calculator estimates them from the odds of the horses involved, with the range most real payouts fall in.
It depends mostly on the winner's odds, then the runner-up's. Typical $2 Exacta payouts:
- 2-1 over 5-2 (two favorites): about $18
- 5-1 over 2-1: about $37
- 10-1 over 8-1 (two longshots): about $180
Eight in ten real payouts land between about 30% below and 40% above these. A $1 Exacta pays half.
Racing is pari-mutuel: every bet of one type goes into a pool, the track takes its share, and the rest is split among the winning tickets. A Trifecta pays from the Trifecta pool, not from the win odds, so it depends on how many people bet that exact combination.
Odds still predict it well. Before the race, the tote board's will-pays (probables) show the current price for each combination. Superfectas vary too much to estimate from odds alone, so the Payout Calculator leaves them out.
Yes. The odds move with every bet until the gates open, and a lot of money comes in during the last few minutes. Your payout uses the final odds, not the odds when you bet, so a horse you took at 5-1 can go off at 3-1 and pay less.
Our Betting Calculator is free for everyone, no account needed, and has two tools in one:
- Cost Calculator: Instantly shows the dollar cost of any exotic wager (Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta, Super High 5) with support for Straight, Box, Key Box, and Key Wheel strategies. Pick your horses, set a base bet, and see the total before you commit.
- Spread Tickets: Builds optimized multi-race tickets (Daily Double through Pick 6). Classify horses in each leg as A (top picks), B (contenders), or C (longshots), set multipliers to control coverage depth, and it generates a ticket set that concentrates your money on the most likely outcomes while still covering enough to catch a price.
Opened from an E-Z Win® Form, it becomes the E-Z Win® Calculator: horse names and tier ratings load from the race card, with no retyping needed. That version is included with Clubhouse and Winner's Circle, and you can try it free 10 times on any form you buy.
